In the run up to the marriage equality referendum taking place on Fri 22nd May, Ben & Jerry’s have been canvassing at key Luas stops, handing out free scoops of ice-cream and encouraging members of the public to vote Yes for marriage equality.

Ben & Jerry’s have a long history of commitment to issues of social justice, including gay rights, and have been supporting marriage equality for a number of years. In 1989 they were the first major employer in Vermont to offer health insurance to domestic partners of employees, including same sex couples. The main message Ben & Jerry’s want to give people in the days leading up to the marriage equality referendum is to have a voting plan in place: organise transport, know where their polling station is and to use their vote. As the LUAS is widely used by both Dubliners and people from commuter towns, it was the perfect fit for Ben & Jerry’s to set up camp at some of the busiest stops: Stephen’s Green, Balally and Heuston.

Despite weather storms and technical difficulties on the first day of the activity, the campaign is still attracting queues with lots of people pledging to vote yes!

The Ben & Jerry's Luas activity was planned and activated by Insight Marketing.
