Dubliners encouraged to Cycle for Good with 10 cent donated for every
Just Eat dublinbikes journey taken.

As homelessness figures in Ireland continue to increase, with over 10,000 people reported to be living in emergency accommodation, Just Eat today launched their inaugural Cycle for Good campaign in support of charity partners Peter McVerry Trust. Developed by the market leading food ordering and delivery app to raise up to €100,0001 and help alleviate homelessness in Ireland, Cycle for Good will see Just Eat donate 10 cent to Peter McVerry Trust for every Just Eat dublinbikes journey taken in the capital over the next 10 weeks.
While reported homeless figures do not include those sleeping rough, a single file line of 10,000 people would stretch nearly 5-miles2, the equivalent distance from Stephen’s Green to Blackrock or O’Connell Bridge to Santry.

Speaking at the launch
Pat Doyle, CEO of Peter McVerry Trust said; “Peter McVerry Trust is honoured to be benefiting from this fantastic initiative by Just Eat dublinbikes. We appreciate the opportunity to take part in such a high-profile fundraising appeal to raise further awareness of our work and the wider issue of homelessness.
We are delighted that Just Eat continues to partner with Peter McVerry Trust and back our efforts to provide solutions for people experiencing homelessness. Peter McVerry Trust continues to work on an ambitious housing programme and currently supports over 500 people in housing across Ireland."

The Just Eat dublinbikes scheme is provided by JCDecaux on behalf of Dublin City Council and is celebrating its 10th year in operation this year. The goal of ‘Cycle for Good’ is to achieve 1,000,000 journeys over the course of the 10-week campaign, moving 10 people out of homelessness in Ireland. Lord Mayor of Dublin Nial Ring, who was also in attendance, continued; “I’m delighted to celebrate the launch of the Cycle for Good campaign and to be marking such a significant milestone for the Just Eat dublinbikes scheme. For nearly a decade, cyclists in Dublin have enjoyed the use of this fantastic bike-sharing facility, so I urge all cyclists, and would-be cyclists, to get on a Just Eat dublinbike over the next 10 weeks and help raise much needed funds for the Peter McVerry Trust to help alleviate homelessness in our capital.  10 years going, 10-week campaign, 10 people out of homelessness – this brilliant initiative from Just Eat dublinbikes certainly gets 10 out of 10 from me.”

Just Eat Ireland Commercial Director, Edel Kinane went on to say; “The ambition for this initiative is to raise €100,000 for Peter McVerry Trust in just 10 weeks and ultimately to move 10 people out of homelessness and into better futures in Ireland. With the support of a heavy-weight marketing campaign, we want to generate further awareness of Dublin city’s and indeed Ireland’s growing housing crisis, and also of the great work that’s being done by the team at Peter McVerry Trust.”
“The warmer weather can make it easier for people to forget about those most at risk in our society, so I encourage everyone to make the most of these bright long summer days and get out on one of the 1,600 Just Eat dublinbikes in Dublin and ‘Cycle for Good,’ to help alleviate homelessness in our country.”

Joanne Grant, Managing Director JCDecaux Ireland closed by saying; “JCDecaux is proud to support our partners Just Eat with the roll-out of their ‘Cycle for Good’ campaign. This much-loved bike sharing scheme continues to go from strength to strength, not least because of the welcomed trend towards healthier and more sustainable living habits. It is easy to register for Just Eat dublinbikes so this is a great incentive for people to get active while also raising vital funds for homelessness in Ireland.”
Over the past number of years Just Eat customers have helped generate over €55,000 for Peter McVerry Trust, through a range of nationwide initiatives.
