The National Transport Authority (NTA) reported preliminary figures this week showing an increase of 3.6% in total public transport passenger numbers. Luas saw the biggest growth out of all public transport with an increase of 6.1% on the previous year.

Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority said 2016 would be another busy year for the NTA, with a strong focus on delivery. “The Luas Cross City project will be a major focus for us in this current year, managing major construction works through the heart of Dublin while keeping the city open for business”

The Luas network covers a total of 37.2 kilometers following the last round of extensions to The Point, Brides Glen and Saggart. Work on the Luas Cross City, which will link the red and green lines, is currently underway in Dublin City Centre.

Luas passenger figures have been rising steadily since 2010 to reach the record high of 34.6 million last year. 23% of regular Luas Commuters are between 25-34 years of age and they are more likely to be heavy outdoor and cinema media consumers compared to the Dublin average. 55% are main shoppers, 44% work full time and 71% are home owners.

Luas advertising formats have developed over the years with unmissable fully wrapped trams now a familiar sight in Dublin city, along with interior tram dominations, straplines and portrait panels. Luas columns on the platforms have proven to be an ideal format for OOH Innovation showcasing full wraps and 3D specials builds. Eye-catching partial wraps in the form of tram sides, centres and tops give advertisers plenty of flexible options to reach the ever growing and desirable Luas commuter audience.
