27 million journeys were taken on Luas in 2010 - an increase of over 6% on 2009. This rise in journeys is in contrast to other forms of transport in Dublin as more and more commuters make Luas their preferred method of transport to work, college, retail destinations, entertainment and social events.
In December 2009, the red line extended to The Point and this has contributed significantly to passengers using the line to attend events at The O2 and commuting to the North and South Docklands area. The green line extension to Cherrywood opened in October 2010 and is already proving popular with passengers and contributing towards the increased number of journeys taken on Luas.
