Final 2011 figures released by Pollstar show just how popular the O2 in Dublin is – ranking 5th in the world in terms of best attended music venues.
The O2 played host to some of the world’s biggest names in 2011 – Rihanna, George Michael, Westlife and Peter Kay to name but a few. And there are more to come in 2012 including Snow Patrol, Florence & the Machine, Van Morrison and Noel Gallagher.
Luas is at the heart of entertainment and leisure venues in the capital and in particular, the O2 (The Point) which is the final destination on the Red line. There are additional trams on show nights to cater for the large numbers that use the service on their journey to and from the venue. Luas is the perfect advertising medium for entertainment brands and to remind travellers what is on in the city.
Another boost to the Luas entertainment portfolio is the reopening of the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield, also on the Red Line. This ‘art house’ cinema and café is extremely popular and extends the network of cinemas that are on the Luas line.
With events such as the Stone Roses sold-out reunion concert in the Phoenix Park in July and blockbuster movie releases (The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spiderman), 2012 is set to be a good year for passengers on the Luas.
