It has been 4 years since dublinbikes launched on a sun-drenched Sunday morning in Dublin city. Since then, the scheme has exceeded all expectations in terms of usage and popularity and is widely considered to be one of the most successful bike sharing schemes in the world.


There are currently 550 bikes and 44 stations, and plans are afoot to expand east to the docklands and west to Heuston station, adding 58 stations in total and bringing the number of bikes to 1,500.

  • Over 35,000 long term subscribers
  • Over 6,000 short term subscriptions so far this year (2013)
  • Over 5 million rentals since launch
  • Average journey time 13 minutes
  • 95% of rentals are free, i.e. under 30 minutes
  • Busiest usage day so far: 6,838 rentals on 13th October 2011
