According to the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) and the National Transport Authority (NTA), 32.4 million passenger trips were taken on the Dublin light rail network last year, an increase of 6% on the previous year.
Luas celebrated 10 years of operations in June 2014, and the network now covers a total of 37.2 kilometers following the extensions to The Point, Brides Glen and Saggart.
22 million passenger trips were made in the first full year of operations but then dropped in 2008 and 2009 during the recession. Since 2010 they have been climbing steadily to reach the record high of 32.4 million last year. Work is currently underway on Luas Cross City, which will link the green and the red lines.
Luas advertising formats have also developed in the 10 years since launch, with spectacular fully wrapped trams now a familiar sight in Dublin city, along with columns on the platforms and interior tram dominations, straplines and portrait panels. Eye-catching tram sides, centres and tops are the latest formats to have been introduced in 2014, giving advertisers plenty of flexible options to reach the ever growing Luas commuter audience.
